Choosing your El Paso Wedding Photographer: The Right Questions to Ask

Let’s continue our previous post on whether it is important for your photographer to have experience in your venue or not. As I mentioned, it is absolutely NOT! And you can read up on the reasoning behind this conclusion. But now as I promised, here is a list of things that “actually” matter and are in fact important to go over with your wedding photographer.

What you do need to ask is:

  • What is included in the fee?

  • Will the photos will be retouched?

  • Do you shoot in black & white, or color? If the answer is both what percentage of each can you expect?

  • Do you shoot digital, or film?

  • What style is your specialty?

  • How many weddings have you shot?

  • How many do you shoot in a year?

  • What’s your favorite part of the wedding day?

  • What is your favorite time of year to shoot?

  • Do you receive the proofs?

  • How many hours of coverage are included in the fee?

  • What is the charge for overtime?

  • Do they have a backup photographer in case of an emergency?

  • How will you work with the videographer?

  • Do you own the copyright of the photos?

  • How many photos will you receive?

  • What will you wear?

  • Will you bring your own lighting?

  • How long will you wait before seeing the photos?

  • Agree the total fee and deposit at the start.

These questions will give you a good idea of how the wedding photographer operates, and what you can expect from them. It also affords you the opportunity to get to know them and whether you both get along with them.

It’s important to remember that every wedding is different, which means that no two weddings at your chosen wedding venue will ever look the same. So if you review photos from a wedding at the same venue there’s a good chance your photos will look nothing like them. There are many things that affect the outcome of photos, such as the weather and the time of day and the lighting provided by your DJ.

The most important aspect of a wedding photographer is that as an experienced professional they will consistently produce the same level of quality regardless of where they are shooting. When you look at their portfolio you will get a good idea of how consistent their work is across their website, social media and their portfolio. A professional wedding photographer can handle any venue, and any lighting situation, while still providing you with images that are consistent with their style.

Unlike other large cities, there are only a handful of good wedding photographers in El Paso, TX. You just have to reach out and find the best. You are not simply looking for a wedding photographer, you are looking for someone who is going to capture your special day in the most unique, and outstanding way possible.

A truly talented wedding photographer can shoot anywhere and is able to adapt under any circumstances. Don’t choose a photographer that is simply going through the motions in order to get paid, choose the photographer that is burning with passion and able to improvise.

Couples love sharing their wedding photography with friends and loved ones, so it is important that you find the photographer who will capture the essence of your day. What isn’t important, though, is whether they have previously worked your wedding venue.

Hire the photographer with the personality, philosophy and shooting style you want. If you can imagine hanging out with them for the entirety of your wedding day, then they are the right wedding photographer for you.

Cheers!
